 #5 Return to Ravenhearst
Clicking on the word "SCHOOL" over the porch of the schoolhouse gets the following POV comments:
What did the pen say to the pencil? "So, what's your point!"
Why did the teacher wear sunglasses? Because his class was so bright!
What object is king of the classroom? The ruler!
Ugh, that's enough, go inside already.
Fine, one more...
Why were the teacher's eyes crossed? She couldn't control her pupils!
(clicking again starts over with the pen/pencil question)

#6 Dire Grove
Placement of the township of Dire Grove:
** Weatherman on the radio in the students' rental car states the worst of the storm is in North Yorkshire, with power outages from downed trees and powerlines between Wetherby and York
** Brochures in the hotel lobby - one says "Conveniently located off York Road" and another "located 3.2 miles northwest of Bickerton, N Yorkshire" (LOL that should have been given in kilometers but hey), goes on to say "Popular points of interest include the old town center, Celtic ruins, and a relaxing day of sunning on and around beautiful Lake Frigid" . . . there are small lakes nw of Bickerton, though zooming in on Google Maps doesn't bring up names on any of them, but I think I've narrowed down the one that "is" (for my purposes, at least) Lake Frigid, 53°57'36.0"N 1°20'29.9"W according to Google Maps.
** News article on right-hand sleeping bag - artifact was found near the banks of Walton River near Celtic ruins site . . . there is a river or maybe stream just south of the chosen lake next to War Field Ln, zooming in brings up no name on Google Maps, so that "is" Walton River (for me).

The MD says in the diary that he/she once again heads east back to agency headquarters. North Yorkshire is indeed pretty much straight east of Blackpool (the MD's just leaving Ravenhearst) ... HEADCANON I'd already determined (In Her Majesty's Service) that Darnell wasn't officially on business to begin with for the run from Madame Fate through Dire Grove bur rather he's in the country at the invitation of one of the MI6 guys who'd been his contact(s) when he was in country the year before on the first Ravenhearst investigation, and that he's driving a rental car. He's heading ultimately back to MI6, yes, but what has him driving east into North Yorkshire is he's headed for Leeds Bradford Airport and got really lost. It's also the airport the students flew in/out of and got their rental car from.

Stories in chronological order by canon timeline (to be added to as new titles are published)

Jokers Wyrd (on FFnet) (on AO3)
Summary - “When the Grim Reaper hands you a rubber chicken,” said the Master Detective, “you say thank you and take it. But there you go. THAT is why I don’t like clowns.” His friend gave a low whistle, shaking his head at the extraordinary tale. “Can’t say I blame you, mate.”

MCF: Madame Fate (on FFnet) (on AO3)
Summary - Based on events of game #4 in the series. The Master Detective hadn't been assigned to, nor been looking for, a case. But he found one. And something found him.

In Her Majesty's Service (on FFnet) (on AO3)
Summary - In the wake of his case in Dire Grove, the Master Detective is approached about upgrading his "honorary" position with the Royal Agency to an official one. With a twist. Semi-spoilers for the bonus chapter of Ravenhearst Unlocked re: MCF's origins.

Aftermath (on FFnet) (on AO3)
Summary - Alister's defeated at last - case closed? Not quite. There's still the unnatural brand, the dead body, the woman trapped in a storage room, and an exhausted Master Detective who'll end up back at the lunatic asylum if someone doesn't ID and vouch for him first.

Little things that don't fit anywhere else and aren't enough for their own post. To be added to as I find stuff.

Come out of this alive.
You’re more than
what keeps you up at night.
You’re more than
capable of triumph.
(credit unknown)

*****************************************

I creep in my petty pace today
On a stage where I've refused to play
But the curtain went up and I couldn't get away
And the part I play is a palindrome
'Cause I've doubled back and I'm heading home
And I'm wondering if the show will ever come down

Maybe Next Year by Eben Brooks

*****************************************

But yeah, I blame his intelligence, his attention to detail, and his puzzle-solving ability for his need to write things down. He takes in so much, notices so much, and his mind is always working on piecing things together, that he loses half of what crosses his mind because it keeps getting replaced with more data, more thoughts and observations and information. Hence having to write things down.

There is a strength of quiet endurance as significant of courage as the most daring feats of prowess.
- Henry Theodore Tuckerman, American writer (1813-1871)

*****************************************

I must fling myself down and writhe; I must strive with every piece of force I possess; I bruise and batter myself against the floor, the walls; I strain and sob and exhaust myself, and begin again, and exhaust myself again; but do I feel pain? Never. How can I feel pain? There is no place for it.
- Harry Houdini

*****************************************

My brain is the key that sets me free. No fear! When everything looks like you're not going to be able to get out, you're not going to be able to escape life's challenges, relax, calm down, and let your brain figure your way out.
- Harry Houdini

*****************************************

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

- Frank Herbert, Dune

Character: Special Agent Darnell Barrett, Master Detective
Canon: Mystery Case Files (HOS/Adventure casual game series) - Link to Wikipedia page
Version: NA – however please see NOTES below
Canon Point: Post Game #15: The Black Veil
Age: 32
Gender: Male
NOTES: The nature of the early games was such that there was no POV character, and the tagline of the series was “You be the detective!” However, as style and the mechanics of game play have evolved over the years (first game premiered in 2005, most recent just came out a month ago), the POV as an actual character, known simply as the Master Detective, became a stronger and stronger presence through written journal entries and POV comments across the top of the screen in reaction to specific events and/or the player clicking on items or areas. For most of the series, the Master Detective has been accepted as a character in his/her own right. By and large, though, the game developers have been very careful not to “prove” the Master Detective’s gender one way or another (continuing to allow the player to imagine him/her as they choose). Fandom in general seems to have “set” the character as being female, but I’ve always had a male take on the detective, myself. The name is one I chose for him, as none is ever given in canon – the rare times a name is used, the system pulls in the player’s profile name.
